Education
Leaders: Anna Halafoff (Deakin University) and Robert Jackson (University of Warwick)
Education is increasingly viewed as playing a critical role in advancing understanding about diverse worldviews and social cohesion in Australia and internationally. The education case study will analyse and evaluate the Australian and Victorian curricula regarding their content on worldview diversity - including on religion, spirituality and non-religion – and to what extent they reflect the lived worldview complexity of young Australians. The education case study also includes an analysis of newspaper reporting on diverse worldviews during the COVID-19 pandemic, which investigates levels of religious and worldview literacy within Australian media. Both components will make recommendations pertaining to educational strategies to advance interreligious understanding and social cohesion in Australian schools and Australian journalism.
